Strategies to Build Trust and COVID-19 Vaccine Confidence and Engagement among Minority Groups in Scotland

Abstract As countries continue to deal with the global COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, policymakers recognize that science, technology, innovation (STI) practices offer a means of addressing many health problems arise from ongoing pandemic. Such recognition has given rise STI policy initiatives across various areas science policy, leading better understanding coronavirus development vaccines, treatments, diagnostics. However, practical implementation vaccine treatment strategies within local communities extends well beyond laboratory. This study explored how misinformation trust amplify or attenuate perceptions those ethnic minority groups deemed more susceptible impacts virus. Primary data in this were collected Scotland through semistructured interviews 26 expert nonexpert members Scotland’s communities. The findings show risk perception is fluid dependent on information evidential environment which people find themselves. Misinformation, fake news, conspiracies, distrust (from prior experiences historic practices) influence messages are received, including acceptance vaccines. article reflects approach building confidence engagement based study, identifying strength for further improvement research. authors believe, as shown by our research, will be impactful if developed public, public values, concerns, priorities.
